Cache County School Foodservice is holding a ‘Pan Sale’ – TODAY (Friday) from 2p.m. to 6p.m. both days at the Cache County School District Offices (2063 N 1200 East) in North Logan. New commercial-quality cookware for sale (cookie sheets, cookie sheet covers, parchment paper, fry pans, heat-resistant spatulas, oven liners, mixing bowls and much more). The public is welcome.
Richard and Linda Eyres will be in Logan TODAY (Friday) and will be speaking from 1230p.m. to 120p.m. in the Eccles Science Learning Center, room 130. They have written over two dozen books on the family and issues that are facing the family. The Eyres, in conjunction with USU are starting an initiative titled “Balancing Work and Family”. This will focus on helping families balance the strains of work while centering time on the family. (Currently USU offers a course titled “Balancing Work and Family”).
“Centro de la Familia” will be hosting a Book Fair where you will be able to purchase quality books at great prices – TODAY (Friday) from 1p.m. to 4p.m. at 316 N Gateway Drive in Providence. A percentage of the cost of each book purchased will be returned to Centro de la Familia in free books. Pioneer Valley Lodge (2351 N 400 East) in North Logan is sponsoring a couple events to benefit the American Cancer Society TODAY (Friday). A speaker from the ACS will speak at 330p.m….then the “Harvest Ball” will be held beginning @ 730p.m. (refreshments will be served). Tim Holwig will perform. Donations are welcome. A Benefit Basketball Clinic featuring members of the USU men and women’s basketball teams will be held Saturday from 12 noon to 3p.m. @ Cedar Ridge Middle School (65 N 200 West) in Hyde Park. The clinic is for children in grades 3 thru 7. Come learn skills and techniques from these experienced athletes. Cost is $25 for online registration or $30 dollars at the door the day of the event. The Masonic Harmony Lodge #21 (118 West 100 North) in Logan will be conducting a Public Child I.D. Program and Open House – Saturday from 10a.m. to 2p.m. Parents are invited to bring children between the ages of 6-months and 16-years-old to receive a Fingerprint card, DNA kit and an I.D. card to add a photo and lamination. Veterans will continue to be honored on Monday at Golden Corral. They will thank active-duty and former United States military personnel for their service with a free dinner buffet and beverage while raising donations for the Disabled American Veterans (D.A.V.). Locally, the North Logan Golden Corral will serve free dinner buffets with beverage from 5p.m. to 9p.m. on Monday to any person who has served in a U.S. Military branch (including the National Guard and Reserves). Identification is not required.
Stuff-a-Bus encompasses a series of service events throughout November and December that benefit the Cache Community Food Pantry and Sub for Santa. Every Monday night in November student volunteers will take Aggie Shuttle buses through the community and knock on doors for non-perishable food items. This year there also several campus groups that are donating time to help collect food, including Student Athletes, Greeks and the Ambassadors. Other groups are collecting cans for admission to their events, including Athletics (HURD tailgate party and Coach’s Show)and the LDS Institute.

The Brigham City Senior Center will offer memory screenings. They’re free, confidential and quick – and they’re a first step toward proper diagnosis. Smithfield Recreation Turkey Trot 2009 will be held November 21st @ 10a.m. Early registration until Wednesday for less price. Further registration until day of the race. 5K, 10K and 1-mile Fun Run. All proceeds from the race will go towards the Smithfield Recreation Low Income Youth Scholarship Fund. Lewiston Arts Council presents the 14th annual Lewiston Craft & Gift Boutique – Saturday, November 21st from 10a.m. to 4p.m. at the Lewiston Community Ballroom. Door prizes and entertainment with an exciting assortment of vendors and lunch and desserts offered by Grandma’s Corner Bakery. Admission is free and all proceeds go to the Lewiston City Playground Fund.
The Greater Smithfield Chamber of Commerce presents their “Annual Night of Giving” Dinner and Christmas tree auction – Nov 21st from 6p.m. to 8p.m. at Skyview High School. Cache Community Connections, an organization of civic and religious leaders, invites all Cache Valley residents to participate in the 4th annual Faith Exchange Welcome Weeks. Every week in November, the month of Thanksgiving, everyone (whether affiliated with a particular religion or not) is invited to attend a different religious service. This is a time for information, understanding and, hopefully, thankfulness for the growing religious diversity that the valley has to offer. Also Sunday, November 22nd the 6th annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Service will be held at the Logan Tabernacle at 7p.m
Angie’s Restaurant will once again provide free Thanksgiving dinner to the community this Thanksgiving Day(Nov 26th) from 11a.m. to 2p.m. The dinner is free, however, donations are accepted and a different charitable organization is selected each year to benefit. This year a ‘collection fishbowl’ will be at Angie’s for the entire month of November and the proceeds go to the Cache Valley Child and Family Support Center.
Please join the Logan City Police Department in it’s 6th annual “Coats for Christmas” Drive and help keep Cache Valley kids warm this winter. Any new or gently-used coats, in children’s sizes will be accepted for donation now through Dec 4th. You may also make a financial donation to this effort if you choose. Junior Jazz Youth Basketball 2010 offers a recreational basketball league for boys and girls of all abilities Grades 1st thru 8th. The program teaches kids the fundamentals, positions, skills and sportsmanship required to participate in basketball and have fun while doing so. No experience necessary. The Cache County Senior Citizen Center, Meals-on-Wheels programs delivers hot, nutritious noontime meals to eligible residents throughout Cache County. This program assists seniors that are sixty years and older and who are elderly, homebound, disabled, frail or at risk. They currently have about 60 volunteers that deliver meals to more than 200 individuals, five days/ week. THEY NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS. On Thursday, Oct 22nd, the Dennis Sorensen home located in College Ward was suddenly and completely destroyed by a gas-leak explosion. Dennis’ son and daughter were injured. 27-year-old Tony Sorenson faces approximately six weeks in the burn unit at the University of Utah Medical Center. The family is now faced with mounting medical bills and the cost of re-building. Please help the Cache Valley Fire Public Education Coalition raise money to help pay the medical bills of the Sorenson family and help them rebuild their home and their lives. The H.E.A.T. (Home Energy Assistance Target) Program is now open. The program assists low income individuals in paying fuel bills. An eligible household can apply for only one HEAT payment per winter season. The amount paid is based on type of fuel used, household size, family income and your energy burden. Those interested can now schedule an appointment. Call the HEAT program at the BRAG office in Logan located at 170 N Main (435-752-7242) and for Rich County (877-772-7242) and for Box Elder County (435-723-1116) for program information in your area. The program runs until April 2010 or until federal funds are exhausted.

The Comprehensive Treatment Clinic is heading up a project to help disadvantaged youth in the Cache County School District who cannot afford shoes, to get a new pair. The project is called “Cache Shoes 4 Kids”. They are collecting donations from now until December 12th. All proceeds from this non-profit project go to the purchase of shoes for the children.
